What Should I Wear?

Please bear in mind that these are just guidelines to help you out, not hard-and-fast rules! Feel free to reuse and recycle outfits you may have, or buy whatever you like. This is a low-stress situation, and diversity is always nice (if you really wanted you could wear sweatpants too).

Mehendi

The vibes are colorful, vibrant, sunny garden party. Play up the prints and colors in your outfits!

Attire Ideas: Indian, Western or Indo-Western fusion

Gents: Rock a kurta, a fun shirt with chinos, or add a Nehru jacket to a shirt and jeans combo.

Ladies: A long skirt-crop top duo, breezy summer dress, printed jumpsuit, or salwar-kameez.

sangeet

The vibes are an evening cocktail party. Bring the bling in your accessories and/or outfits!

Attire Ideas: Indian or Western

Gents: Snazzy blazer-pants combo or a blingy kurta-pajama

Ladies: Shimmery cocktail dress, saree, or lehenga

haldi

The vibes are similar to mehendi, in that it’s a daytime garden party except you will apply turmeric paste to the bride and groom (and each other!).

Attire Ideas: Casual Indian or Western (something you don’t mind getting turmeric stains on!)

Gents: A comfy kurta-pajama or casual shirt and pants.

Ladies: Summer dress or any Indian wear as specified in Mehendi.

Colors: We welcome non-yellow colors!*

*Traditionally people wear yellow for the haldi, but if you have an alternate non-yellow outfit you could wear for this event, please do so. If not, yellow is fine!

wedding festivities

The vibes are a formal evening wedding party. Let’s dress up for the occasion!

Attire Ideas: Indian encouraged

Gents: A sharp sherwani, or a tuxedo or suit.

Ladies: A lehenga or saree, or a formal evening dress.

Colors: The bridal color is red, and typically pure white is avoided during Indian wedding ceremonies. Any other colors apart from these are fine!

a note on footwear

Definitely carry comfortable footwear (sneakers, flip flops, slides). The fort has stone steps to get to your rooms, and you’ll need them to explore the fort too!

Heels: the aforementioned stairs can be uneven in some places, so bear that in mind when you try to navigate them in heels. Stilettos could work for the sangeet and wedding, since the floor will be stone or concrete, but we would advise against those for haldi and mehendi because those events will be in grassy lawns.

a note on afterparties

These are not part of the schedule on the Home page, but are very much planned. This is exactly like a house party at our place, so outfit-wise, anything goes. The idea is to hang out, play music, dance, and drink. Show up in a dress/jeans, sweats, pajamas, your sheets. And be ready to stay up!

Shopping

You’d be surprised, but the US sites for ASOS and Rent the Runway may have some Indian wedding guest outfits for men and women.

If you plan to shop in India, here are some stores with several outlets you can explore that carry both men’s and women’s outfits. They have websites that you can check out for an idea of their aesthetic:
